Mobile Prototyping with Mobile Processing

March 14th, 2007

I’m not a Flash programmer, but some of my best friends are. So, I’d heard of Processing before, and heard that it was really cool.

I didn’t know until just this week that they had Mobile Processing, though.

Testing Mobile Processing

In just a few minutes I had their development environment running, and had built and installed one of the applications featured on the site on three different handsets (on a couple different carriers).

Mobile Processing targets J2ME, MIDP 1.0, which is the lowest common denominator of Java Phones. Almost *every* phone that runs applications will run these apps.

This seems to me to be a great platform for quick prototyping of mobile applications. Especially because the app should be DEMOABLE on your client’s phone. Always a good thing.

Tommy Kane’s drawings are amazing, and so are the words surrounding them. I follow his work on both his blog and on flickr.
